Sir Albert Richardson, Houfe and Partners (1946-1964)

In 1898, early in his career, Richardson worked with the ecclesiastical architect Evelyn Helicar and would later become advisor to a number of dioceses including, Ely, St Albans and Southwark. In 1949 Richardson undertook his first commission at York Minster, working on Archbishop Savage's Monument and the North Choir Aisle and in 1951 he worked on the Gospel Pulpit. In 1955 Richardson worked with H.J. Stamners on the Astronomical Clock (illustrated) at the Minster. The clock which is in the North Transept is a memorial to the airmen of the allied forces who operated from bases in north-east England in the Second World War. Princess Margaret opened the memorial in early 1956, with Richardson in attendance.
