PROBABLY BY THE IMPERIAL PORCELAIN FACTORY, CIRCA 1825
Of amphora form on spreading circular foot, the body painted with a rural scene, the reverse decorated with a ciselé medallion depicting a landscape within scrolling foliage on a blue ground, above a gilt band with scrolling acanthus leaves, flanked by two handles modelled as putti, apparently unmarked

Specialist note

During the reign of Alexander I (1801-1825) the Imperial Porcelain Factory embraced the European Empire style and therefore abundantly used classical sources for inspiration. The result was the formation of a unique Russian Neo-Classical style, characterised by its richness, opulence and colour, of which the present vase is an example.
