The later bevelled plate within a panelled surrounds incised with leafy vines and surmounted by a broken arched pediment centred by a ho-ho bird, the sides with scrolled foliage and flowerheads, the shaped apron similarly incised, regilt

Specialist note

A mirror dated circa 1740 of similar profile and with closely related foliage pendants and moulding, is illustrated in C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, Bradford, 1978, p. 208, pl. 262. Interestingly, the following entry features a walnut mirror with virtually identical eagle cresting circa 1745. That mirror's plate has a stamp which indicates a possible date of 1876.
