signed with initials and dated 'A·P 1786' (lower left)
on ivory
oval, 2 3/8 in. (61 mm.) high, giltwood frame with beaded surround
A paper label on the reverse is inscribed in pen, 'from Chicksands Priory Shefford'

By direct family descent to the present owner.

Specialist note

According to family tradition, the present miniature depicts Elizabeth Osborn, née Bannister, first wife of Sir George Osborn, in two different positions. Chicksands Priory, mentioned on the label on the reverse, is the ancestral home of the Osborn family.
