TWO KUTAHYA POTTERY HANGING EGGS

Suspension eggs are frequently found in the Orthodox churches as well as mosques. Some of these eggs were offered by pilgrims to the church, as votive offerings. Given their egg-shaped form, these hanging components were likely symbolic of the cult of fertility. For more details see: J. Carswell and C.J.F.
