Circular, probably after a design by Leo Michelson, the centre painted with a street scene in old Riga, within phthalo green cavetto, the borders decorated with pale blue geometric motifs on pistachio ground, marked under base with impressed factory mark; also inscribed 'Vec - Riga.'(lower centre) and with initials 'LM' (lower left)

Specialist note

Leo Maximovich Michelson (1887-1978) was a Russian-American painter and draughtsman. He studied at the Munich and St Petersburg Academies of Art and his works were exhibited at one of the Autumn Salons of the Berlin Secession, in Paris and Riga. From 1939 he lived and worked in the USA. His works form the foundation of the Michelson Museum of Art, established in 1985 in the City of Marshall, Texas.
