oval box, the cover, sides and base of rock-crystal, the sablé gold mounts stamped with slightly raised foliage enamelled in translucent green and translucent red enamel berries and flowerheads, within opaque white enamel frames

Specialist note

Charles Ouizille was born in 1744 and followed in the footsteps of his half-brother Louis, and was, like him, apprenticed to Louis-Guillaume Cassé, his maternal uncle. He obtained the maitrise in 1771, sponsored by his relation-by-marriage Philippe-Antoine Magimel. Ouizille was appointed bijoutier du roi and appears frequently in the accounts of the Menus Plaisirs as a supplier of boxes.
