Specialist note

These two panels are almost certainly after Bertel Thorvaldsen's depiction of the triumphant entry of Alexander the Great and his armies into Babylonia.
Marble versions commissioned by Napoleon Bonapart for the Pantheon, Paris, are in the collection of the Villa Carlotta, Tremezzo, Italy.
