A SILVER-STUDED BRASS ASTROLOGER'S GLOBE
INDIA, POSSIBLY LATE 19TH CENTURY
Cast in two parts, studded with silver stars, engraved with constellations, equatorial and ecliptic, pierced at poles
6in. (15.2cm.) diam.

Note du spécialiste

An interesting example of a cross between the celestial globes described in Maddison, F. & Savage-Smith, E. Science Tools & Magic (Oxford: 1997) pp.406-13 and the late 19th century astrologer's globes (cf. pp. 160-5), probably from the workshops of the former.
