all labelled H.M.S. Egeria, with dates, latitudes, longitude and depths, some descriptions such as Foraminiferous, coordinates are for the South West Pacific, near Tonga; cork stoppers sealed with red wax.

Specialist note

HMS Egeria, a Fantome class, was launched in 1873. Captained by Pelham Aldrich in 1886 she undertook a survey around Australia. The current samples range from 33°S to 23°S and between 170°W and 177°W. Mud samples such as these are currently used to gather historical date for climate change.
