Specialist note

Although Harrison did not perform at Live Aid, the sentiments of the occasion ran very close to the 'Concert for Bangladesh' that he organised in 1971, in aid of the homeless Bengali refugees of the Bangladesh Liberation War. The Concert for Bangladesh was the first benefit concert of its kind, in that it brought together an extraordinary assemblage of major artists collaborating for a common humanitarian cause, setting the precedent that music could be used to serve a higher cause. Something Live Aid succeeded in emulating.
