JOAN BUSQUETS I JANÉ (1874-1949)

Busquets' early work was characterised by Gothic and Rennaissance styles, however, during the final years of the 19th Century his work became inspired by the more fluid and organic forms of French Art Nouveau. In 1900 he contributed to the Sobrinos de Juan Batlló stand at the Paris World Exhibition where his creations reflected an interest in the work of the progressive French designers Louis Majorelle and Hector Guimard. The hall stand displays an obvious resemblance to Guimard's design for the interior of Castel Béranger in 1898, however, retaining a distinctly Catalan feel of carving, movement and construction.
