A BRONZE FIGURE OF MILO OF CROTON

Milo of Croton was a legendary athlete of the 6th century B.C. whose pride in his own strength caused him to attempt to wrench an oak tree apart with his bare hands. The job had been started with a wedge, and Milo ended up getting his hands caught. He was left a helpless prey to the wild beasts. The original marble version is now in the Louvre, Paris.
