Specialist note
Topographical views such as this were a mainstay of Benjamin Walton's production. Working in partnership with William Ryton from circa 1810, Ryton's brother Obadiah having died in that year, Walton eventually took over sole ownership in 1842 following Ryton's retirement. His eldest son Frederick continued after his father's death in 1847 until 1874, succsessfully re-establishing the firm's leading position in the industry - exhibiting at the Great Exhibition of 1851 at the Crystal Palace in London.
