Black, Star and Frost one of the oldest jewelry firms in America traces its roots to 1810. Its founders were Erastus Barton and Frederick Marquand who opened a jewelry store near New York's Maiden Lane. Over the ensuing years the firm changed partners and in 1876 changed from became Black, Ball, and Co. to Black, Starr, and Frost moving to office space at 251 Fifth Avenue. The firm became know for their jewelry, silver objects and imported European products. Black, Starr and Frost was one of the great American jewellers along with firms like Tiffany & Co. In 1929 the company merged with Gorham and renamed Black, Starr, Frost and Gorham. It was later acquired by Marcus & Co in the 1960s. In 2006 Alfredo Molina purchased the firm and while the New York flagship store was closed they remain at a location in Costa Mesa, California.
