Gilt-finished highly jeweled lever movement, minute repeating on two polished steel hammers, gold cuvette, white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer retrograde date indication with central hand, aperture for phases of the moon, three subsidiary dials indicating day, month and constant seconds, heavy circular case, repeating slide in the band, cuvette and dial signed Charles Ed. Specialist note

The ébauche for this unusual watch was supplied by Marius LeCoultre, using his retrograde date system as well as his unusual four letter abbreviation for the calendar indications.

Marius LeCoultre, a watchmaker and retailer located in Geneva, founded his own company in 1848. He specialized in unusual and high quality watches, developed a retrograde date system and was awarded an honourable mention during the Geneva Chronometer Contest in 1887. At the Chicago Universal Exhibition in 1893 he exhibited complicated and precision timepieces.

Charles Ed. Lardet was active in Fleurier, Switzerland, during the last quarter of the 19th century. The company specialized in watches for the Spanish and Turkish markets.
