A RARE CHINESE LARGE MING BLUE AND WHITE DISH
EARLY MING DYNASTY, SECOND HALF 15TH CENTURY
Painted in inky-blue tones with two lush peony blooms growing from a curled branch bearing leaves and buds, surrounded on the well with a continuous wave band and lotus scroll below a classic scroll to the rim, the reverse with a further lotus scroll, the base unglazed, some repair
48 cm. diam.

Specialist note

A dish in the similar style but painted with four blooms instead of two from The Topkapi Collection is illustrated in T. Misugi, Chinese Porcelain in the Near East- Topkapi and Ardebil, Vol. 1, HK University Press, 1981, p. 117 and p.121.
