AN ITALIAN CARVED WALNUT CHAIR
IN THE MANNER OF ANDREA BRUSTOLON, LATE 19TH CENTURY
With upholstered back, arms and seat, each arm carved with a blackamoor, on trunk-carved legs joined by a stretcher

Specialist note

Although of much later date, the carved figures adorning the arms of this chair are clearly inspired by the extraordinarily naturalistic work of the celebrated Venetian carver Andrea Brustolon, who produced a number of important suites of furniture, including one now in the Palazzo Rezzonico, Venice, and another in the Palazzo Quirinale, Rome.
