Lot 76 DOMAINE DE LA ROMANEE-CONTI
Domaine de la Romanée Conti (DRC) has long been described as the "central pearl" of the Côte de Nuits. For several centuries now, its wines have been treasured for their strength, finesse and longevity. The domaine's records go back to 1512 and the monks of St. Vivant. The current owners, de Villaine family acquired the estate in the 1870s.
The Domaine consists of two monopole wines, Romanée-Conti (1.81ha) and La Tâche (6.06), with major holdings in the grands crus of Richebourg, Grands-Echézeaux, Romanée-St. Vivant and Echézeaux. 1934 was the first vintage in which DRC could claim sole ownership of La Tâche, the completing portion of the vineyard which had been purchased from the Liger-Belair family the previous year. DRC also has a miniscule holding of Le Montrachet (.68ha). Because of the high quality and necessarily small production, there is always insufficient wine to meet demand of the world's wealthy elite, hence DRC's high prices.
