Each circular with a ribbon-tied reeded border, engraved with a coat-of-arms below a baron's coronet, each marked on the back, further stamped 'GARRARDS Panton Street LONDON'
9 7/8 in. (25 cm.) diam.

The arms are those of Galloway quartering Abernethy, Stewart of Bonkyl and another with Douglas in pretence impaling the Royal arms quartering Scott as borne by Archibald, 1st Baron Douglas of Douglas (1748-1827) and his second wife Frances (1750-1817), daughter of Francis, Earl of Dalkeith (1720-1750), whom he married in 1783. Lucy Douglas of Douglas, Countess of Home (1805-1877), wife of Cospatrick, 11th Earl of Home (1799-1881) and granddaughter of Archibald, 1st Baron Douglas of Douglas (1748-1827) and his second wife Frances (1750-1817), daughter of Francis, Earl of Dalkeith (1720-1750) to match Baron Douglas' dinner service made by Paul Storr in 1793, and then by descent to

Specialist note

This lot formed part of an extensive Victorian dinner-service commissioned from Garrard to match Baron Douglas of Douglas' neo-classical dinner-service which was made by Paul Storr of 1793. The service passed to Lady Home as the only surviving heir of Baron Douglas of Douglas.
