Specialist note
Although unsigned, the glass was almost certainly made by Webb's or Stevens and Williams of Stourbridge, who relied on Joseph Keller for engraving designs, which he published in A Collection of Patterns for the Use of Glass Decorators, Designed by Joseph Keller. Charles R. Hajdamach, British Glass, 1800-1914, 1991, p. 161, pl. 132, includes a design plate by Keller in which exotic birds and scrolling vines on fluted goblets closely relate to the style of the present lot.
Another ewer of the same design dating to 1885/86, is illustrated in John Culme, 19th Century Silver, 1977, p. 184.
