ONE BY JACOB FRERES, ONE BY JACOB DESMALTER, CIRCA 1803
Of X-frame shape with lion's head terminals, the seat covered in black material, one stamped to the underside JACOB.D. R.MESLEE and the other one stamped to the underside JACOB.FRERES RUE MESLEE (2)

Specialist note

The stamp JACOB.FRERES RUE MESLEE was used by the two sons of Georges Jacob; Georges II and François-Honoré-Georges Jacob Desmalter, in use from 1796-1803. After the death of Georges II, the workshop was continued by Georges senior and François-Honoré under the name Jacob Desmalter. The stamp JACOB.D. R. MESLEE was used between 1803 and 1813. The fact that the tabourets are marked with both stamps lead to a date of circa 1803.
