Specialist note

With Rolex fitted green presentation box.

Launched in 1958, reference 5508 was an upgraded version of reference 6536/1, depth rated to 100 meters (330 ft), the case without crown guards and the newly designed bezel with divisions for the first fifteen minutes, larger silver triangle and luminous bubble. The dial featured the gilt printed "Submariner" and both with or without the white printed depth rating.

The present reference 5508 is a fine example from the series launched in the late 1950s, the signature and scales printed in gilt but with the addition of the white printed depth rating "100m=330ft".

The most noteworthy feature however is its so-called "exclamation" dial, characterized by an additional luminous dot positioned underneath the 6 o'clock hour marker. These dials were in production for an extremely short period only.

Preserved in such beautiful, original condition and with the addition of the highly attractive chocolate brown colour of the dial, the present watch can be considered a rare find for the avid collector.
