Specialist note
Rolex first presented their famed Sea-Dweller model, the reference 1665, in 1967. This was the first waterproof watch that enabled divers to plunge to a depth of 610 meters as it was fitted with a Rolex patent valve in the band. Initially developed for the Rolex Submariner the valve permitted the escapement of helium and other gases, in turn allowing the watch to withstand pressure at extreme depths.
The present watch is representative of the third "Mark III" series distinguished by the writing on the dial.
