EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Featherbanded overall, the arched pediment with later giltwood finials above a pair of panelled doors enclosing a grained fitted interior with pigeon-holes, drawers, dividers surrounding a pair of central doors, above a pair of candle-slides, the lower section with a fall-front, enclosing a fitted interior with a slide, pigeon-holes and drawers surrounding a central hinged door, above two short and two long graduated drawers, shaped bracket later feet and later base moulding, one pigeon hole with paper label inscribed in ink 'OLD BANK BOOKS', the locks and handles on the base section replaced, the axe-head handles on the upper section replaced

Specialist note

A related walnut bureau-cabinet, with similar arched cornice and veneered rather than mirrored doors, was sold from Gyrn Castle, Llanasa, North Wales at Christie's Gyrn Castle house sale, 17 July 2006, lot 46. Another with similar arched cornice but with mirrored doors (with later plates) was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 8 July 1999, lot 63. A walnut bureau-cabinet with the same pattern of arched upper section but with later mirror plates that had almost certainly been bought by William Berry, 1st Viscount Camrose (d. 1954) was offered anonymously [Property of a Nobleman], in these Rooms, 8 July 1999, lot 63.
