With gilt-finished cylinder movement, plain three arm brass balance with parachute on the top pivot, blued steel flat balance spring with bimetallic compensation curb on the regulator, quarter repeating on one polished steel hammer onto a gong, gold cuvette, the engine-turned silver dial with Roman numerals on blank chapter ring, blued steel Breguet hands, in circular engine-turned case with ribbed band, pull-twist repeating through the pendant, case numbered B2047 and stamped with casemaker's mark PBT in a lozenge for Pierre Benjamin Tavernier, cuvette signed and numbered, dial signed Breguet et Fils

Specialist note

According to the Archives of Montres Breguet, the present half quarter repeating watch with unnumbered gold case made by Tavernier, was sold to Monsieur Thureau for the Count Sternberg on 4 June 1817 for the amount of Francs 2,128.

Kaspar Maria von Sternberg (also: Caspar Maria, Count Sternberg), 1761-1838, was a Bohemian theologian, mineralogist, geognost and botanist. He established the Bohemian National Museum in Prague and is deemed to be the founder of modern paleobotany. He was also on friendly terms with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Pierre Benjamin Tavernier, the renowned case maker located in Paris, supplied his exceptional cases to the most famous watchmakers of the time, notably Abraham-Louis Breguet, Ferdinand Berthoud and others.
