Specialist note
The subjects include the Nimrod departing from Lyttelton (1 January 1908), heavy seas, the Nimrod at Glacier Tongue, portraits of Shackleton, Adams, Harbord and others, and the Nimrod in Relief Inlet (rescue of the Northern Party).
The photographs are accompanied by a newspaper cutting relating to Polar medallists and mentioning Commander Harbord's imminent retirement. This and the two portraits of him here suggest this group of photographs originally belonged to him.
