THE PORCELAIN 18TH CENTURY, THE DECORATION OF LATER DATE
Each cylindrical with scrolled handles, painted after the Du Barry service with blue vases along the upper rims connected by swags of vari-colored flowers above a gilt band, the lower bodies with entwined initials of a gilt foliate D and a B made of a flower garland
6 in. (15.2 cm.) long, over handles

Specialist note

The decoration on the present glass coolers is based on a service acquired by Jeanne (Bécu) Gomard de Vaubernier, Comtesse du Barry, mistress of Louis XV in 1771, the fourth service bought for or by Madame du Barry while at Court. It is likely to have been intended for use at the château de Louveciennes which was given to Madame du Barry by Louis XV in 1769. The service is notably the first of its type to feature a monogram and neo-classical motifs. The service was still in the possession of Madame du Barry at the time of her execution during the Revolution on 8 December 1794.
