Each painted with various pastoral scenes related to the month identified in Dutch in a cartouche at the top, including ice skating in January and apple picking in September

Acquired from Earle D. Vandekar, New York, by Ann and Gordon Getty in 1988.

Specialist note

A nearly identical set of 'calendar' plates by De Porceleyne Bijl, though with the scenes for June and July swapped, is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the gift of Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1927 (Acc. No. 27.143.1-12).
