A SET OF FOUR GEORGE II SILVER CANDLESTICKS
MARK OF ELIZA GODFREY, LONDON, 1758
Each on shaped square base with incurved sides, the fluted column stem with openwork Corinthian capital socket and detachable square-shaped nozzle, with gadrooned and fluted borders, each later engraved with a crest below an Earl's coronet, marked under bases and on two nozzles, further engraved on sockets' rim with No 4, No 5, No 8 and No 9, two nozzles with No 5 and No 10
11 5/8 in. (29.5 cm.) high
59 oz. 1 dwt. (1,837 gr.)
The crest is probably that of Meade, for John, 1st Earl of Clanwilliam (1744-1800), created Baron Gilford and Earl of Viscount Clanwilliam in 1766 and Earl of Clanwilliam in 1776.
