Specialist note

In 1892, The Guild of Handicraft designed the interior of Sir James Rankin's Bryngwyn Manor and crafted twenty tooled and embossed leather panels with highlights in gilding and red and grey paint. The present three panels are of the same design depicting a stylized plant form, possibly a pomegranate. Other panels were of the Guild's favored emblems such as the pink carnation and the 'Craft of the Guild', a galleon under sail. Another panel from this commission can be found in the permanent collection of The Wilson Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum (obj. no. 1982.1216).
