Specialist note
The 61GS series started production in 1967 and was produced until the end of the vintage Grand Seiko era in 1975. According to our research, the Ref. 6145-8050 model was made only in 1972 (for two months only according to some).
The vintage Grand Seiko era begins from the introduction of the first Ref. 3180 in 1960 to 1975 when parent company Seiko ceased production during the Quartz Revolution. Grand Seiko was born out of a quest to create “the ideal watch” – a beautifully handcrafted timepiece that would be durable, legible and with higher chronometric standards than Swiss watches.
Production only resumed in 1991, and in 1998 the second generation of Grand Seiko watches was launched with the new 9S5 series of hand-wound and automatic calibers.
