The use of S-shaped locks, short-grain kickers and red wash are all sophisticated constructional features typically associated with the workshop of Thomas Chippendale. Although there is no record of Thomas Chippendale working at Windlestone Hall, Co. Durham, the Eden's country house, a similar commode, constructed of exotic hardwoods, and with S-shaped locks, attributed to either Thomas Chippendale or John Cobb was sold from the collection of Sir Timothy Eden (Anthony Eden's brother), Christie's, London, 29 November 2001, lot 107 (£28,200, including premium).
