Specialist note
The attribution has been confirmed by Dr Maria Teresa Cantaro on the basis of a photograph (letter, 21 December 2005). Dr Cantaro states that this work is both stylistically and formally close to the artist's series of small portraits produced in the last decade of the sixteenth century.
