Specialist note

J.H. Weissenbruch travelled to Barbizon in the company of Victor Bauffe and Mrs Slagmulder in 1900, and possibly the present lot portrays the latter. Mrs Slagmulder was the wife of the owner and director of Frans Buffa and might have been portrayed during their trip to France in the house of the Barbizon-school painter J.F. Millet.
