Girard-Perregaux’s first tourbillon movement featuring three gold bridges was patented in 1884 by one of the firm’s founder, Constant Girard. A unique innovation in the history of watchmaking, up till today, the design still represents the perfect aesthetical, technical and symbolical combination, proven by the fact that at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889, Mr. Girard’s tourbillon with three gold bridges was awarded a highly appropriate gold medal.
Consigned by an important private collector, the present timepiece symbolizes supreme harmony between art and technique through a circular case crafted out of platinum, a testament of the achievements of the firm's past. The challenge of miniaturizing the pocket watch movement and to inverse its construction by positioning the gold bridges on the dial side was perfectly mastered and crowned by the launch of the celebrated “Tourbillon Sous Trois Ponts d’or” wristwatch.
