Specialist note

Janet Taylor Pickett’s The Messenger is a painting inspired by Cassandra, a beautiful princess in Greek mythology who was given the gift or prophecy but was cursed to never be believed. “She becomes the Conjure Woman of African American folklore, the confidant, and strong messenger of prophecies known and unknown.” – Janet Taylor Pickett
