MARK OF DANIEL AND JOHN WELLBY LIMITED, LONDON, 1912, 18 CT.
In the Adam style, on square plinth applied with ribbon-tied drapery swags centred by a medallion, the ovoid body chased with alternating matted and plain flutes, the handles cast as a Bacchus mask, the detachable cover with acorn finial, marked on body and cover bezel

Specialist note

The cup is designed in the Adam revival style popular in the early years of the 20th century. An almost identical gold cup of 1913 was offered for sale at Christie's London, 13 July 1994, lot 66, the George Gatonby Stead Memorial Cup run for at Canterbury, New Zealand.
