Circle of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (Seville 1618-1682)

This life-size painting relates closely to Murillo's Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine in the Museum of Cádiz, painted in 1682 as the centerpiece of the Church of the Capuchinos altarpiece, though here the format is horizontal and includes the figure of Saint Francis in place of two putti. There is another, smaller verison of the Cádiz composition, thought to be a study, currently in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
