AFTER THE MODEL ATTRIBUTED TO PIERRE GOUTHIÈRE, LATE 19TH CENTURY
Each centered by a foliate mount issuing nine scrolling branches terminating in circular candle holders with foliate drip-pans, centered by a marble urn flanked by three scroll supports with hoof feet, on a tri-form base joined by floral garlands centered by Classical masks, on a conforming marble base, the ormolu variously stamped 'PP'

Specialist note

The present candelabra are copies of the celebrated model attributed to Pierre Gouthière which were supplied circa 1785 by the marchand-mercier Charles Darnault for the 'Grand Salon' or the 'Salon du Jeu de Mesdames' at Château de Bellevue. They are now in the Petit-Trianon at Versailles (P. Verlet, Les Bronzes Dorés Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1987, p. 99, fig. 111). The model was notably favored by Henry Dasson, who executed a pair with bleu turquin marble dated 1882 and sold at Christie's, London, 1 October 2002, lot 208.
