CIRCA 1755, CHARLES GOUYN’S FACTORY, ST JAMES’S
The first modelled as a nymph, flanked by Cupid and a spotted dog before a clock-face, the base inscribed L’HEURE / DU BERGER / FIDELLE, the second modelled as a maiden holding bunches of grapes, inscribed POUR MON AMOUR
The taller example 3 ¾ in. (9.5 cm.) high overall

Specialist note

Both these models are illustrated by Carl C. Dauterman, The Wrightsman Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1970, volume IV, p. 323, no. 132 (the first) and p. 324, no. 133 (the second), and examples of both scent-bottles from the collection of Lady Charlotte Schreiber are preserved in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, museum nos. 414:295/&A-1885 and 414:297/&A-1885.
