Specialist note

The chair pattern relates to a design published in the third edition of Thomas Chippendale's, The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director, 1762, no XI and the interlaced pierced and strapwork back corresponds exactly to a chair in the Noel Terry collection, illustrated in P. Brown, The Noel Terry Collection of English Furniture and Clocks, York, 1987, p. 63.
