Lot 2807 Two exquisite clocks in the shape of gem-set agate snuff bottles (Lots 2807 and 2808), now updated with modern technology in these two examples, clearly demonstrate the influence of the Chinoiserie style – the European interpretation of Chinese artistic traditions – greatly favoured by the denizens of Europe and Louis Carter himself. Delicate in size, both clocks are testimony to Cartier’s continuous exploration of the exotic to fuel the imagination of their designers.
