One signed to the base 'DEBUT', and inscribed 'SALON DES BEAUX-ARTS PAR DEBUT (PRIX DE ROME)'; the other signed 'E. PICAULT' and on a circular rouge griotte base
One 15 in. (38 cm.) high; the other 14 ½ in. (37 cm.) high

Specialist note

Born in Paris in 1865, Marcel Debut studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and was a pupil of Thomas and Chapu. He exhibited paintings and sculpture at the Salon des Artistes Français in the 1890's.
