Specialist note

In this design, the head and shoulders of a man are formed by interlocking human bodies, a poem inscribed above. The topknot of the man is composed of a man holding a portable brush and ink case and the body is made of further men wearing identical kimono.

The poem reads:

In any great man among men
there is no man at all.
Some people become people
other people make people.
