UNKNOWN MAKER’S MARK 'IHB’, TOBOLSK, 1774
Cylindrical, slightly tapering, the body repoussé and chased with wave-bands and nielloed with two rocaille cartouches on a gilt stippled ground, one enclosing the Cyrillic monogram 'ESh’, the other the date '1773 [year]’, the upper and lower parts further nielloed with rocaille bands, marked under base, also with black painted numerals, further marked with French import mark on rim
4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) high

A beaker of similar form and decoration, nielloed with the coat-of-arms of Denis Ivanovich Chicherin, was sold Christie's, London, 24 November 2014, lot 443. Another comparable beaker, dated 1773, was sold Christie's, New York, 19 April 2002, lot 246.
