MARK FOR JAN-FRANS VAN DER BORGHT, BRUSSELS, LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Woven in silks and wools, depicting The Triumph of Flora, with the figure of a seated Flora surrounded by maidens, within a simulated picture frame border, signed 'F.V.D.B.' and with Brussels town mark 'BB', losses to the silks
11 ft. 8 in. x 6 ft. 2 in. (350 x 188 cm.)

Specialist note

Jan-Frans belonged to one of the largest and most important weaver’s dynasties in Brussels during the 18th Century. Together with his brother, Pieter van der Borght (d. 1763), he took over his father’s workshop in 1742 when he also received the weaver’s privileges.
