Specialist note

The title of this screenprint, Usque quo, Domine? (How long, O Lord?) is a quotation from Psalm 13:1 in the Hebrew scriptures, in which the psalmist appeals to God to hear his cry and come to his rescue. Drawn directly from the butterfly collages of his larger gloss paintings, the luminous, mandala-like arrangement of patterned butterfly wings references both the stained glass of Europe's great cathedrals and the entomologists' specimen cabinet - presenting science as the new, secular religion.
