Specialist note

This lot consists of three calligraphies.

A native of Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, Xu Boqing (1926-2010) dedicated his life to teaching calligraphy and was involved in numerous artists’ associations. He studied both painting and calligraphy at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts with excellent results. His works have been exhibited in China and abroad as well as featured in numerous publications.

A native of Hubei province, Tian Huan (1893-1982) was a painter and a calligrapher. He studied in Japan between 1912 and 1919, then returned to China and settled in Shanghai, where he became an official for the city government.
