Specialist note

Lami made two other compositions, both smaller, in similar settings: A hunting breakfast in England (10.3 x 18.5 cm.) in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (Inv. 1246-1886; Eugene Lami: Essai de Catalogue raisonné par Paul-André Lemoisne, Paris, 1913, no. 930), and Depart pour une chasse à courre (17 x 26 cm.), from the estate of Frédéric Lami (Drouot, Paris, 16 June 1933, lot 21, ill.).
